USCPD adds AI tech, Greek Life grows, Women’s Basketball dominates!

Hi Everyone- It’s Christmas Eve, but here at Dean’s List, we don’t take a holiday when it comes to keeping you in the loop! While Santa’s out delivering presents, we’ve been busy wrapping up this week’s update for the University of South Carolina.

On the docket:

  • USC Police Department Integrates AI Body Cameras

  • USC Greek Life Expands to Meet Growing Demand

  • Game On: Women’s Basketball Team in Action Over the Holidays

USC Police Department Integrates AI Body Cameras

As a senior at USC, I’ve learned that campus safety is a big deal—whether it’s those late-night walks back from the library or just feeling secure during your everyday routine. So, I wanted to share something cool: the USC Police Department is rolling out these new AI-integrated body cameras. Fancy, right?

The idea is to make interactions between officers and students better (and maybe a little less awkward) while also helping review any incidents more efficiently. Plus, it’s not just “hey, here’s some new tech—good luck!” USC is actually running studies to make sure it works. One of the studies even found that officer conduct improved noticeably, which is a win for everyone.

The training process is still underway, but honestly, it’s pretty reassuring to see steps like this happening. It’s like USC saying, “Hey, we’ve got your back.” Just one more reason to love this crazy, amazing place we get to call home. Stay safe out there!

USC Greek Life Expands to Meet Growing Demand

As a Chi Omega at USC, I’ve got to say—Greek life here is such a game-changer. It’s not just about wearing cute letters or showing up to events (though let’s be honest, that’s fun too); it’s really about finding your people. Your home away from home. The ones who hype you up for Taco Tuesday and help you survive finals week.

This year, over 4,000 students are involved, and recruitment had a record-breaking 2,000 participants! Greek life is definitely thriving here. But let’s be real for a sec—Greek Village is amazing, but with chapters averaging over 300 members, it can feel like finding a sister in a crowd of clones. Expanding the village with more houses could make things feel a little less like rush hour and a little more like a family dinner. Smaller chapters = even stronger bonds, right?

USC is growing like crazy, and it’s awesome to see how they’re adapting for future students. Whether your student is already in Greek life or just considering it, there’s so much to love about being part of this community. Go Gamecocks!

Game On: Women’s Basketball Team in Action Over the Holidays

While many of us are enjoying a well-earned holiday break, the South Carolina Women’s Basketball team is staying hard at work, showcasing their dedication and championship spirit. The Gamecocks are set to take on Wofford in an exciting home game on Friday, December 29th, at 2:00 PM in Columbia. This matchup is a great opportunity for your student to cheer on the team and be part of the electric atmosphere that only Gamecock basketball can bring.

Even during the holiday season, the Women’s Basketball team exemplifies what it means to be relentless and driven. Their commitment to excellence on and off the court is something all Gamecocks can be proud of. If your student is in town, encourage them to grab their friends, don their garnet and black, and support the team as they continue to grind through the season. Let’s show Wofford what Gamecock pride is all about!
