USC Dance Marathon 2025: Making a Difference on Feb. 22

The USC Dance Marathon (USCDM) Main Event is happening Saturday, Feb. 22, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Strom Thurmond Wellness Center—and it’s more than just a dance party. This 14-hour celebration supports Prisma Health Children’s Hospital – Midlands, and over the past 27 years, Gamecocks have raised $9 million+ for the cause. This year’s theme, “Together for Tomorrow,” focuses on unity and continuing that legacy.

Students can get involved by dancing, fundraising, or cheering on their peers, making an impact while being part of one of USC’s biggest traditions. If you see friends grabbing comfy shoes, they’re not suddenly into cardio—they’re gearing up to stand, dance, and raise money FTK!

The Vestry: The Ultimate Stay for USC Parents, Students, and Gamecock Fans

If only I had known about this sooner! Finding a good spot for Parents Weekend, graduation, or even a big game weekend at the University of South Carolina can be nearly impossible, but The Vestry changes the game. A local developer took an abandoned church and completely transformed it into an incredible Airbnb, perfect for groups. Whether you're coming with family or a big crew of friends, there’s plenty of space, and the unique setting makes it way more fun than a cramped hotel.

I seriously wish I had known about this sooner because I definitely would’ve booked it! No more stressing over last-minute hotel availability or splitting up into multiple Airbnbs—The Vestry is right in the middle of everything, making it super convenient for both students and parents. If you're planning a visit to cheer on the Gamecocks, celebrate a big milestone, or just spend a weekend in Columbia, this is the place to stay

Assembly Street Rail Project to Ease USC Traffic

Big news—Columbia is tackling the infamous Assembly Street train delays with the Assembly Street Railroad Separation Project, funded by $204 million in federal grants. The city is considering three design options:

  • Alternative A: Rail bridges over Assembly Street, lowering the road by 18 feet.

  • Alternative A-1: Similar to A, but includes direct rail access to local industries.

  • Alternative B: Assembly Street bridges over rail lines, requiring fewer rail modifications.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation will choose a design this month, with construction expected to take 18 to 24 months once started. So, next time you’re late thanks to a train, just know relief is on the way—though setting an earlier alarm might still be a good idea.
