The university is planning to demolish and rebuild the student union to better accommodate the growing number of Gamecocks, with construction starting summer 2025 and wrapping up by 2028. So, depending on your student’s timeline, they might get a front-row seat to a campus construction zone (think of it as "Advanced Navigation Skills 101").

This $240 million project, paired with updates to housing, historic buildings like McKissick, and even a pedestrian bridge, is all about keeping up with USC’s growing student population. The freshmen class of 2023-24 was the largest ever, and the university expects enrollment to keep climbing. Sure, there may be a little chaos in the short term, but hey—if it means fewer complaints about long Chick-fil-A lines and better housing options, it’s a win in the end!

Donuts with the Dean: A Sweet Midweek Break for Gamecocks

If your student has a sweet tooth and some free time between classes, let them know about Donuts with the Dean of Students! On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Office of the Dean of Students will be hanging out on the second floor of the Russell House University Union with free donuts. Yes, free. No catch—just donuts and a chance to chat with the Dean of Students staff. It’s a relaxed, informal way for students to connect, voice their thoughts, or simply grab a snack that didn’t come from their dorm room stash.
